Donna Burmeister reported on the GISD career pathways and the innovative web-based EDP activity to date. She reiterated that these activities work toward the benchmarks established in the career prep system. Vocational funds are utilized to support the EDP; however, this project directly supports the CPS standards. Detailed handouts that show the working progress to date with EDPs and the CPS were distributed and explained. |

Linda Roeser presented a video on the Business Education Coordinating Council career preparation activities showing the connection between career pathways and planning. Many personal comments were made from students on the video. She also distributed a chart "Connecting Students to Future Careers" and a list of the Career Pathways Exploration and Conference activities planned this January through April. Linda also stated that over 2,000 students have participated in the Young Inventors Program. She is hoping that Shiawassee County will become involved in the YIP in the future. |

C. Genesee Area Focus Council - Career Awareness/Exploration |

Sherri Newman gave an overview of the GAFC K-8 career preparation program activities. Currently, 52 school buildings in Genesee County (15 districts, including private and charter schools) participate in the program. It is anticipated that six new schools will be signing on. Core team meetings have been held monthly. Approximately 125 educators attend. The next career prep core team meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2003, GISD. |

Visits to various employer worksites was held with 380 students from Davison Schools attending. Elementary students, grades 1-5, will be participating in a week-long "Camp Invention" program being taught by certified teachers. A new partnership with the Flint Cultural Center has been established. Over 5,000 Genesee County students participated at the Flint Institute of Arts for career awareness. This is a new partnership formed recently with the FIA. |

Brian Pyles distributed a folder that presented the many career prep K-12 activities currently underway in Shiawassee County. It included a student records piece and the variety of tools currently being used to promote career preparation. He stated that all of the career initiative activities are under the umbrella of the Career Preparation System. EDPs are running well in all districts. Brian reiterated the importance of providing a variety of career choice experiences for students. A followup study is planned to capture the success of the employer piece. Brian is eager to share materials with Genesee County businesses. |

Sherry Bradish, Mott Community College, addressed the committee on the Perkins Title III Tech Prep activities. Targeted activities for 2002-03 are professional development, curriculum alignment, and curriculum development. Activities include: Automotive Technology Collaborative; Computer Information Systems - Oracle; Cosmetology; Design and Manufacturing Consortium; Food Services/Culinary Arts; Health Sciences; Mechanical Engineering Technology; Simulation Technology Partnership; and Counseling. Tech Prep funds, totaling $222,536.00, help to promote Tech Prep activities in Genesee/Shiawassee Counties. |

The 2002-03 plans have been approved by the MDCD. Work will begin on the 2003-04 plans as funding becomes secure. A workshop is scheduled for January to obtain the new application, expected to be submitted electronically. A draft of the plan will be brought to the EAG for approval on April 16, 2003. |
